A Look At…Aaron Bowen

This is the third in a series previewing the 2010-2011 Hoyas.  For a complete look at this year’s team, go here.

Aaron Bowen, one of Georgetown’s five-member freshman class, is a 6’6″, 200 lb. swingman from Jacksonville, Florida.  He’s a long, thin guard who will add athleticism to the Hoya back-court, although perhaps more in future years than in this one.  Bowen excels in transition offense and open-court defense and on spot-up three-pointers, as this video demonstrates:

The early reviews from Kenner League reinforce this assessment: although he starred in some games and struggled in others, the overall assessment was positive.  In particular, Bowen displayed his smooth, deep jumper and athleticism on the break. Long-distance accuracy and aptitude finishing at the rim will make Bowen a particularly adept contributor to the Hoya offense.

Bowen arrives on the Hilltop in a year in which the Hoyas are stacked at the guard and wing positions, with Chris Wright, Austin Freeman, Jason Clark, and Hollis Thompson all deserving of starter’s minutes.  While this will not allow Bowen the extensive exposure that Freeman and Thompson in particular enjoyed in their freshman campaigns, he will benefit from the opportunity to learn from veterans while hopefully providing valuable contributions in spot minutes. Look for Bowen to develop in limited action over the course of this year before stepping into a sixth-man role next year.
