Weekend Overview

Whether you’re lying on the couch or going down to your local watering hole, here’s some help keeping your eyes glued on the TV–(almost) all games with Hoyas post-season ramifications.  Teams near the Hoyas in the standings are bolded, with games ahead or behind in parentheses (so no, those aren’t betting lines):

  • Saturday, 12 pm–Notre Dame (-2 games) at Georgetown, CBS. Warning–apparently Tennessee and Kentucky are slated for noon on CBS as well, so check local listings.   Check out a preview here.  Apparently the Hoyas are going to be wearing some awful unis.  In honor of the 25th anniversary (i.e., the silver one) of Jordan brand, the Hoyas are going to be rocking all silver duds.  Gross.  Hopefully they blind the Irish.
  • Saturday, 12 pm–while you’re watching the Hoyas, keep an eye on Pitt (+1 game) at St. John’s.  The Red Storm blew a winnable game against Marquette earlier in the week that would have helped the Hoyas.  Hopefully they can atone for their sins and upset the Panthers.  Apparently no media of any kind is broadcasting this game.
  • Saturday, 12 pm–in case you don’t have enough to do, Georgetown’s women’s team, which is ranked #13/#11 in the two polls, just like the men, is going to play at UConn, which is a bit of a juggernaut.  Don’t expect good things, but here’s hoping anyway.  Apparently this game is on ESPN360 and, on the TV, ESPN Full Court.
  • Saturday, 2 pm–flip open the laptop for Cincinnati (-2) at West Virigina (+1), ESPN360.  Check out a preview here.  While Cincinnati probably won’t pull off the upset (that crazy simulator on ESPN says they’ve got a 27% chance), it’d be sweet if they did and, in any case, you can get a preview of the Hoyas’ next opponent, the Mountaineers.
  • Saturday, 4 pm–Kansas at Oklahoma State, CBS.  Well, it’s either that or DePaul-Rutgers (admittedly, a juggernaut) on ESPNU.  Might as well watch the #1 team in the land.
  • Saturday, 7 pm–Providence at South Florida, ESPN360.  Just watch the Olympics.  Oh, and thanks, Hoyas, for losing to Rutgers and South Florida, so that, in addition to sweating through the next two weeks of regular-season games, we can’t crack jokes about this game and the previous one anymore.
  • Satruday, 9 pm–Villanova at Syracuse, ESPN.  Yoooge game.  Villanova is just one game behind the Orange in the standings, so the regular season crown could be determined tonight.  Check out a preview here.  In a funny sub-plot, Wildcats guard Corey Fisher was apparently decorating Philadelphia-area cars late Thursday night…with his own urine.  No big deal, though, it’s not like they were within 72 hours of their most important game of the season.
  • Sunday, 12 pm–while waiting on the USA-Canada gold medal game, watch Marquette (even with, tiebreaker over GU) at Seton Hall (-2 games–how did that happen?!) on ESPN360.  Let’s hope Jeremy Hazell brings both halves of his brain to the arena and drops 50 on the Golden Eagles.
  • Sunday, 2 pm–Louisville (even with, loses tiebreaker to GU) at Connecticut (-2 games) on CBS.  The Huskies are coming on strong, having taken down West Virginia and Villanova in their last 3 games.  At 7-8, UConn needs this.

All in all, an action-packed weekend of hoops.  Let’s hope (1) CBS is showing the game where you are, and (2) the Hoyas dominate.
