Get your Bullets

  • Georgetown v. Providence–a preview of Tuesday’s game is here.  Sticking with the prediction –Georgetown 85, Providence 75.
  • Polls–What does a home loss to an unranked team followed by a blowout of #2 mean?  Not much, according to the new polls, which slot Georgetown where it was last week, #7 in the AP, #8 in ESPN/USA Today.
  • Tournament Watch–The new Bracketology also shrugs its shoulders, leaving the Hoyas in a #2 seed.  Of particular interest this week is that two Hoya opponents (Old Dominion and Louisville) are among Joe Lunardi’s “Last Four In,” while four foes (Marquette, Cincinnati, Notre Dame, South Florida) constitute the “Last Four Out,” with Connecticut constituting the 5th.  In other words, the Big East is full of a lot of good-but-n0t-great competition, leading to a six-team “Big East bubble,” as noted by Lundari  in his accompanying column.  This bubble has implications for non-Georgetown games in the coming weeks (10 games remain between these six teams) but also for Georgetown, which still has games against Cincinnati, Notre Dame, and Louisville.  All of those teams will be hungry for high-caliber Ws to bolster their tournament credentials, and Georgetown’s current top-10 ranking is like a bull’s eye on the Hoyas’ backs.
