Weekend Overview

Whether you’re lying on the couch or going down to your local watering hole, here’s some help keeping your eyes glued on the TV–(almost) all games with Hoyas post-season ramifications.  Teams near the Hoyas in the standings are bolded, with games ahead or behind in parentheses (so no, those aren’t betting lines): Saturday, 12 pm–Notre [...]

Georgetown faces another key test Saturday when it hosts Notre Dame at noon.  You can watch the game on CBS or listen on ESPN980. Thursday update: Big East standings watch

With three conference games remaining, Georgetown’s post-season seeding remains largely undetermined.  While NCAA bracket projections have held the Hoyas as a #2 or #3 seed for most of the past two months, the Big East standings are much more fluid.  Currently, the Hoyas are tied for fifth in conference with Marquette and Louisville, and would [...]

The Afterglow: Tuesday Bullets

Recap of the Hoyas’ win over Louisville is here. Welcome to the party, Roy S. Johnson!  Johnson, who is “special to ESPN.com”, penned an article comparing JTIII to big John.  Can’t decide if the 6-year-old story line or his disdain of the Roman numerical abbreviation of Thompson the younger’s name is more annoying.  As great [...]

Rejuvenated: Georgetown 70, Louisville 60

Austin Freeman scored 24 second-half points to finish with a game-high 29 as the Hoyas emerged from Freedom Hall with a convincing 70-60 victory. The Hoyas shook off two disappointing losses and a steep first-half deficit, shutting down the Cardinals after the break as Freeman heated up. A few quick thoughts: Star–Freeman.  29 points, 9 [...]

Too Little, Too Late: Syracuse 75, Georgetown 71

Thursday night,  Georgetown shook off nearly 30 minutes of ineptitude to make a furious comeback, pulling within one point of Syracuse, only to fall just short, losing 75-71.  Like the rest of Georgetown’s season, it was a confusing mix of inspired and inspiring play and sloppy carelessness, maddening inconsistency with just enough hope to keep [...]

Hubris: Rutgers 71, Georgetown 68

Rutgers rode the hot hand of Jonathan Mitchell to a 71-68 upset of Georgetown Sunday.  Mitchell scored a career-high 24 (topping his previous career high, 21, which he netted against the Hoyas last month), helping the Scarlet Knights keep the Hoyas at bay just long enough to pull out the victory. Star–Mitchell.  The guy hit [...]
