Georgetown scored the game’s first 14 points, then gave up about 100 in a row to lose 73-56 in the Carrier Dome last night. Nothing to see here, just keep on driving…Okay, here’s a few quick notes:
- Star (for us)– Austin Freeman–23 points, 6 rebounds. The dude came out blazing, hitting three early 3-pointers, and helping build the 14-point lead. Honorable mention to Jason Clark, who scored 15 ponits.
- Star (for them)–Andy Rautins. 15 points , 6 assists, 6 steals.
- Goat–Greg Monroe and the Georgetown bench (tie). Monroe committed six turnovers against zero assists before fouling out mid-way through the second half. The bench scored zero points. zero.
- It was over when…Monroe fouled out with 6:24 left. It was probably over well before that, when Georgetown didn’t come out of the half with anything better than they went into it, allowing ‘Cuse to build a double-digit lead and failing to get any good looks against the ‘Cuse zone.
- Disturbing trend–Zero bench production. Zero!! Plus, why is Jerrelle Benimon on the wing on offense?
- Frightening trend–’Cuse’s zone. It’s nasty in a way unseen since the ‘Melo-Hakim Warrick days. The high-low game that should allow Freeman, Clark et al. to get open down low led instead to lots of blocked layups.
- Telltale stats–take your pick. There’s FG% (GU 42.6%, SU 53.3%), FT (GU 6-11, SU 21-28), and turnovers (GU 19 v. 14 assists).
- Possible Redeeming Value–Re-match in the Phone Booth Feb. 18.

The Hoyas better lick their wounds, because Duke awaits Saturday.
