Destroya: Georgetown 88, Rutgers 63

Greg Monroe scored 21 points and grabbed 14 rebounds as hot-shooting Georgetown thoroughly dominated Rutgers 88-63 on Saturday.  A few quick thoughts:

  • Star–Monroe.  In addition to a sweet double-double, the big man dropped 6 dimes, and shot an absurd 10-of-12 from the field.  Unfortunately, one of those 12 was a three ball, but hey, he made it.
  • Supporting Cast–Chris Wright (16 pts, 6 assts), Austin Freeman (14 pts, 3 assts), Julian Vaughn (12 pts).
  • The Hoyas won because–they’re better.  Better shooting (63% to 42%), better rebounding (31 reb to 24), better passing (21 assts to 14).
  • Key sequence–up a paltry 10 with two minutes left in the first half, the Hoyas scored the last seven points of the first half and the first seven points after the break to put the game out of reach.
  • Good of you to show up–the bench!  16 whole points thanks to 8 from Hollis Thompson (roughly matching his previous Big East output) and 5 from Henry Sims, and some solid defense.
  • Lingering Question–was their flight on time to Syracuse?  Monday night, 7 pm EST, ESPN.
