Georgetown Releases Men’s Basketball Schedule

Georgetown announced the release of its men’s basketball schedule today.  There appear to be two particularly tough stretches for this year’s Hoyas.  As was known before today, the Hoyas will have a tough second week in December, playing consecutive likely-to-be-ranked foes Butler and Washington on opposite coasts (right around the time of finals, no less).  As JTIII noted, this pair of games will provide the Hoyas with some valuable seasoning before league play begins.

A more prolonged test may come in a January, with home games against Connecticut and Duke sandwiched around roadies at Villanova, Pittsburgh, and Syracuse, with home games against Seton Hall and Rutgers as palette-cleansers in between.  Of course, several Big East teams, including Georgetown, must replace major contributors from last year (and, in West Virginia’s case, keep its point guards out of trouble), and the February stretch of Syracuse-Louisville-Notre Dame-West Virginia could eventually prove to be the more grueling.

There will be plenty of opportunities to see the Hoyas on TV, although exactly how many is unclear.  According to the schedule that you can download here or scan below, 20 of 29 games are slated for broadcast, not counting any Big East Championship or other post-season appearances, leaving 9 off the tube.  However, the press release reports different networks for the the Villanova away, UConn, and St. John’s games, so stay tuned.  In any case, one TV-silent game is the Jan. 3 contest at DePaul — turn here for tweets from yours truly, who will be in attendance.

Now that the schedule is finalized, quick note to the Hoyas: blog founder marcgilbar will happily take the team out for hickory burgers at the Apple Pan after the Washington game, and you’re all welcome to stay at my place in between the DePaul and Marquette games.   Except for Nikita — I hear he snores.
