Cupcake City?

…Well, not exactly, but an initial  glance at the schedule reveals a bit lighter load than last season’s gauntlet.  Based on Andy Katz’s preseason top 25, Georgetown is scheduled to play seven games against ranked teams in the upcoming season, down from 12 last year.  This apparently has more to do with the diminished dominance of the Big East — or at least one man’s assessment thereof — as the Hoyas scheduled three non-conference games against ranked foes both last season (Duke, Tennessee, and Memphis) and this (Washington, Butler, and the Blue Devils again).

CupcakesOf course, there will be the usual slate of difficult unranked conference opponents.  The Hoyas play Pitt, Louisville, and Notre Dame, as well as the Cuse twice.  And, Katz himself separately commented on the rigor of Georgetown’s non-conference schedule, which is a departure from Thompson the Elder’s tradition of all cupcakes, all the time.  Still, it appears unlikely that the Blue and Gray will be repeating their brutal post-Christmas stretch from last year.  Now, if only they can avoid repeating their significantly more brutal February meltdown.

A more in-depth analysis of the schedule will follow after dates are announced…
